Is URL Master capable of creating a vanity URL that are not user profile related?  Basically a URL without a page extension. For example:

If my page is:

http://www.mydomain.com/Default.aspx?TabId=347

The friendly name is:

http://www.mydomain.com/calendar/events/halloween.aspx

I would like to add a redirect to the above page like this:

http://www.mydomain.com/halloween2009

I downloaded the trial but did not see a way to do this.  It looked like turning off page extensions might work, but I wasn't sure how that would affect the rest of my site, not to mention it talked about messing with IIS and such.

Thanks,

Keith

Hi Keith

Yes, you can set up vanity urls like the one you would like.  This can either be a permanent (301) redirect to your /calendar/events/halloween.aspx page, or it can just be a temporary redirect (302) until Halloween is over.

If you would like to have no page extension on the end, you will have to switch off page extensions for it to work.   This is done through IIS but that's not a big problem.  You can still run the rest of your site with .aspx extensions if you like, and can switch the page extensions back on again after you've finished with the Url.

Best thing to do is to ask your host if you can set up 'wildcard extensions' on your site to see if it's possible.

 Hi,

I turned off page extensions and had IIS settings adjusted as needed per the URL Master instructions. That made the re-Direct work great. Then I ran into and encoding/compression problem, which installing the 10 day trial license resolved. I think ii was related to the trial message inserted into the header (also have pageblaster running).

Now I have one more issue, it seems some CSS and JS files are no longer loading. If I turn page extensiosn back on, they are fine again. Turn page extensions off, and they go missing.  Even a direct URL to the css file results in a blank/empty page, when page extensions are off.  CSS/JS files are included in the regex list of URLs to not rewrite.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Keith
