Hi all following this thread.

The errors have been (hopefully) fixed for the 4.9.2 and 5.0.x environments.  Please download the latest version from www.ifinity.com.au/Products/Inline_Html_Links_For_DNN/ and let me know if there are further problems.

I've also updated the functionality so you can choose individual tabs to run the rules on, rather than running the rules on either one or all tabs.  You can now select each individual tab.

Awesome, it installed just fine for me on version 5.00.00.

Now I have a different problem. When I add a rule and switch the module on, DNN stops functioning and every page just times out. The only way to get it back to a working state is the replace the webconfig with the backup from before the module was installed.

What was the rule that you added?  Did you enable the rule for all pages, or just a specific page.

If it's just a specific page, does DNN still time out on other pages, or does it affect all pages on the site, even if the rule is specified to run on a single page?

The rule I had added was to replace a persons name with a link to their bio page. At first I applied the rule to all pages, after testing it on just 1-2 pages it appears to only cause a problem on pages the rule is applied to. I also tested it on a fresh local install of DNN 5.00, and its works great.

It appears we have some sort of conflict on our production installation of DNN.

Ok, if it is affecting only the pages you've applied it to, there's a couple of possibilities:

1) the rule (does it use regex?) may be too complex and is slowing down performance.  You should be able to check this by loading the page content into a regex testing program (I use 'RegexDesigner', a free tool).  If the tool evaluates the regex slowly, then the page will run slowly because the rule has to be run every time that page loads.   You might find some performance if you use a page-level caching tool like PageBlaster, so the rule runs less often and most people will see fast performance.  This is a test-based approach : ie, test it out and see if it helps.  You can also just put in a very simple rule and see if that runs quickly : this will tell you if the rule is the problem, or if there is something more general about the module itself.

2) there is something on that site that is slowing down the performance because of a conflict with the Inline Link Master.  This may be another module, or perhaps a performance setting like whitespace removal, zip compression or something else.  You can experiment with a couple of the host settings and see if that helps.

Let me know if you find anything.  I appreciate any feedback because this module is quite new, and so far I haven't had a lot of feedback on use in the real world.
