Using Tagger together with Blog and Forum Module

I'm in a bit of a fix. I've successfully installed the Tagger Module and configured it to work with DNN's Blog module. Tagging and Tag Cloud Portal and Page for the Blog are working correctly. Clicking on a Tag Cloud link takes the user to the Tag List search results page with a listing of pages containing that tag. Query string used for the blog module is "EntryId" as listed in the installation instructions.

However, I cannot get the same level of functionality for the Forum module. The page tag cloud module was copied from the blog to the main forum page, along with the module to enter tags (there are 3 forum groups, with one group having 11 sub-forums). These were also copied to the individual forum and sub-forum pages. I was able to successfully tag individual postings and have there tags appear in the page tag cloud. But the following problems have arisen:

1. While only tags from the individual sub-forum post appear on the complete post page in the cloud, the tags from the entire forum appear on the sub-forum listing page, even if there is only one post listing on this page.

2. whenever I click on one of the cloud links, instead of being taken to the tag list search results, I am taken back to the main forum page

In configuring the individual tagger modules for the forums, I have used the query string "threadid".

Anyone have any ideas how I can get the Tagger module to work with the forums as well? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Using Tagger together with Blog and Forum Module

I haven't set the Tagger module up with the forum myself, but I'll experiment a bit and let you know what I find.

With number (2) check to make sure you have the 'Tag List Tab' selection made correctly inside the module settings.  This is how the tag knows where to 'send' you when you click on a tag.

Re: Using Tagger together with Blog and Forum Module

That did the trick! Now when I click on a tag, I'm taken to the Tag List page. However, clicking on one of the results takes me back to the top most forum listing, and not to the forum post that was tagged (like it does with the blogs.

I'll eagerly await the results of your experiments Bruce. Thanks.

Re: Using Tagger together with Blog and Forum Module

OK, I think I've got this worked out they way you would expect it.

The detail that you need to remember with the Tagger module is that it matches the tags against the querystring items in the Url.  This happens when saving the tags, and when retrieving the tags to show on a page.

So, to show all the different levels of the forum, you need to add in the following 'query stirng keys' for the 'Page Tag Cloud' module:

- forumId

-threadId

-scope

These are the three query string keys that determine what the forum module shows.  You might also want to add in 'groupId' if you have the forums split into groups and want to tag it that way.

Note that you will have to delete the existing tags you've created for each level as they won't be associated properly with the posts you've made (or, you can leave them in, but they'll always go to the 'wrong' level as you've already shown).  The reasons for this are technical and difficult to detail without writing a 3 page description of how the module works.

I hope this helps?
