Bruce,

I'm testing this module but find it won't respect the phrases notation.  Each time I try it breaks the words into seperate tags.  For that page I entered "latin, court proceedings,my term, next word" but all are discreat terms after save.  (SQL 2000).

Also, a suggestion, could the module grab the tab's meta description as first line starter text?

It's true it doesn't support multiple-word tags through the edit box, although there is nothing in the design of the module that prevents it.   I'll add in parsing for phrases like you specified as a feature for the next release.  I had thought about doing it already, but hadn't made a decision on the best format.

Grabbing the meta description is certainly possible.  Currently it grabs the page title, but some modules don't change the page title.  I'll probably give an option of either of these, and possibly anything else I think of.

I must have read the docs wrong then.  I thought phrases were supported.  In my case, they are required as one word won't define the legal concept well enough.  (BTW, the link to the docs on the download page is broken.)

I have an idea that might make using this module better to administer:

  • For Module Admins in "edit" mode, present a text box for adding tags immediately (skip the edit click if possible)
  • Below the text box, provide a check box list of portal tags so admins can quickly add the same tags
  • After saving, the active tags float to the top and are checked.
  • The check box changes could be AJAX'd.  I generally don't like this method but it could be an enhancement here.

If we go with the tag module it is going to be some work to add it to all our pages.  These features would make it much faster and greatly reduce errors like spelling mistakes etc.  If I haven't made myself very clear I would be happy to do up screen shots.

I've fixed the link for the instructions download : Tagger Instructions Download

Your ideas are good - I had thought along the lines of 'popular' tags before, as well as a few other ways of allowing quick collection of tags from the current page.  Stay tuned and I will investigate adding this functionality.

It's also possible to write a database script that will insert tags for you, if you need to add a lot. You do need a very high level of T-SQL skill though. There is another post on this forum where I have supplied the script to insert tags for a specified page. I doubt many (any?) people would want to go down this path, but, if you're a sql tinkerer like me, it's always an option! I'm always hacking up scripts to get around UI's for other people's modules.

Bruce,

Any more thoughts on this?

The usability items would be very nice but the phrases are a show stopper for us.

I can't automated the tag generation as the content of the pages is too complex for SQL to figure out.  Word counts etc. are not going to be smart enough.
