404's with new install on 4.8.4

Hi,

I have just installed this facility and it looks great, I hate all of those numbers in the URL's.

Anyway, after following the instructions provided I had two problems.

1. Replacing spaces with "_". This worked when writing the Urls but when I actually tried to go to a url with "_"s. I got 404 messages. Changing the replaceSpaceWith setting to replaceSpaceWith="" worked fine.

2. When I try to go to edit any modules settings (ie Edit Text, Settings for Text/Html) I again get a 404.

I cut and pasted the DNNFriendlyUrl example from the documentation and have only changed the setting as described in item 1 above.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Re: 404's with new install on 4.8.4

Hi Folks,

Found the problem.......Me !!!

In the web.config file for DNN 4.84. there are 2 places where you have to replace the default UrlRewrite with

<add name="UrlRewrite" type="iFinity.DNN.Modules.FriendlyUrl.UrlRewriteModule, iFinity.FriendlyUrlProvider"/>

They have added a new section for II7.

Doing that fixed both of my problems.

Also, do not turn off Friendly Urls in the host settings as you will have to reset the UrlRewrite back to the defaults before you can do anything again. I did thinking it would help find my problems and I ended up going round and round in circles.

Tony

Great to see you sorted out the problem.  I was going to post 'check to make sure you have implemented both the Url Rewriter entry, as well as the 'FriendlyUrlProvider' entry.  That's the most common cause.  For the record, another common problem is people setting up wildcard-mapped IIS extensions and ticking the 'check file exists' checkbox, which you don't want turned on.

I'll have to update the FAQ with this one.
