Hi Bruce,

Thank you for sharing your hard work. I installed URL rewriter on a portal (4.8) with several childportals.I used the default parameters from the install instructions. Exept for the page extensions, I changed that to "never", made additional changes in IIS6.

I'm having a problem with some pages. When I am logged in as Host and go to the portals tab, to configure a child portal, I get a "ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

I turned off "Use friendly url's" in host settings and the problem was gone. But after that I cannot log in when I am in the child portal itself. It returns a url that exeeds the maximum characters:

For http://www.mydomain.nl/childportal: http://www.mydomain.nl/www.mydomain.nl/Home/tabid/742/ctl/
login/language/nl-nl/www.mydomain.nl/Home/tabid/742/
ctl/login/language/nl-nl/www.mydomain.nl/Home/tabid/742/
ctl/login/language/nl-nl/www.mydomain.nl/Home/tabid/742/
ctl/login/language/nl-nl/Default.aspx?returnurl=/childportal

All other pages work fine in both ways. I assume the "Use friendly url's" option has to be checked? I don't know where to look for and what. Do you have an idea? (btw, there is a little typo in step 5 of the installation instruction: (.\png)

To answer your question : yes the 'Use Friendly Urls' option must be checked to get the Friendly Urls. This is the switch in the Core DNN code that controls whether or not to call the Friendly Url Provider to get a Friendly Url.
Looking at your problem there is some type of recursive error going on there. I'll admit that child portals aren't as thoroughly tested as 'parent' portals at the moment.
I'll post back on this one when I work out how to re-create the error.

Hi Bruce, I wasn't sure because it worked also without "Use Friendly url's" checked. If you need any more information for reproducing please let me know, I'll be glad to help. Regards, bert(at)xfakt.nl

OK there was a bug with the Friendly Url switch. The Url Rewriter still tries to 301 redirect Urls even if Friendly Urls are turned off at the host level. I've updated the release on the Free Downloads page.
As for your 404 error, perhaps try restarting the application when you add a child portal. There isn't anything that explicitly rebuilds the page dictionary, so it might just need to be rebuilt for a child portal.

Hi Bruce, sorry for the late reply, didn't receive an email for this thread.

I installed the latest version and the problem is still here. (Module load exception In Host, portals, edit a child portal.)
Another problem I have is a Module load exception when adding a tab. After pressing "update" the error occurs. Returning to the site the page is created though.

DNN 4.8, latest version of URL Rwriter (18 feb)
