I am new to URL Master and currently testing it on a localhost site. I have read the documentation and browsed through the forum, but have not yet solved my quandary.

Most of the site I'm working on is built with XMOD. XMOD gives me the ability to display different records in a module, all on the same tabid, using a XMOD record ID.

For example ~/tabid/238/xmmid/1478/xmid/946/default.aspx will display different info than ~/tabid/238/xmmid/1478/xmid/947/default.aspx

I need to be able to redirect short urls like ~/bestdeal, ~/save, etc. to specific XMOD record IDs.

Is it possible with URLmaster? And if so, how?

I would appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Thank you,

If you just want to generate a short url redirect, there is a roundabout way of acheiving this.  It's not particularly elegant, but will work.

First, you create a page with the url you wish to use (ie bestdeal).  Then, you enter in the redirect value you want into the 'permanent redirect' field of the tab settings.

Then, in the Url Master configuration settings, you need to expand the 'advanced rewriting section' and tick the option for '301 redirect' for the field concerning pages with urls configured for external pages.

With these two changes, you can enter in 'bestdeal' and have it do a 301 redirect to the pre-defined url you have specified.

Bruce,

The whole point of using XMOD to create customizable landing pages is to reduce the number of pages I have to manage on the site. So having to create pages for the only purpose of redirection is a solution I am loath to contemplate...I have dozens of records that need rewriting, and I don't want to create dozens of empty pages on my site.

Can I rewrite the url directly in the Web.config?

Sure, I understand - like I said, it's an inelegant solution that doesn't scale well.

Unfortunately there's no way to associate a page name with a particular set of parameters on a page through the web.config or the UI screens.

Bruce,

After testing URL Master, I find that it meets my needs in all respects except for this issue of including parameters in the redirection options. It's a great product...

So let me ask you: Is parameter redirection something that could be added to URL Master?  Could it fit into your development plans?

I may bite the bullet and live with creating extra pages,  if a solution lies on the horizon...

Thank you!
