Hi Bruce, i've noticed a problem with the above when using the MagicNews module on a page which links through to the main news items which is on another page.

The normal URL format for a news item linking to the main news page to display the article is:

/tabid/122/newsId/2/Default.aspx

but with URLMaster i get:

/home/newsId/8.aspx (home should be replaced with "case-studies" as this is where the parent news module is)

The site in question is www.studysouthwest.com - we use the magic news module on the front page which lists the news items from the case studies page which is where the main module is. The problem is, the URLs on the front page don't point to the case studies page and instead use the "home" page as the location.

Is this something which needs fixing or something i can add to the config?

Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan

I'm not familiar with the MagicNews module as yet, so I'll have to understand how the url scheme works.

Can you please follow the instructions I put in my blog post Troubleshooting Url Master Installations and let me know what the Fiddler trace is on this particular Urls (newsId/2)?

I had a quick look and tabid 122 came back with a 'wrong portal requested' redirection reason, which means the tabid 122 doesn't belong to the portalid with studysouthwest.   But you'll know whether or not this is true or a bug or something.

Hi Bruce, the example i gave was just to demonstrate the URL format for magic news, that tabID doesn't actually exist on this site.

It is rendering them wronge as the links should be like those on the Case Studies page as this is using the same module. The module on the front page is just linking through to the parent module on Case Studies.

Not sure if fiddler is going to help here or not, as i'm not sure what i'm looking for.

Dan

You've lost me there slightly.

Can you tell me what urls you would expect to find (in friendly Url format) and what urls you are actually finding?  Can you give me the equivalent 'base' friendly urls (the /tabid/xx/) style.

Bruce, as the site is live, i don't want to disable the URLMaster module to see what the normal DNN links would look like for this specific site, but looking in the database, the TabID of the page where the links should link to is this:

http://www.studysouthwest.com/tabid/61/newsId/1/Default.aspx (this is the old DNN style of link to an article)
http://www.studysouthwest.com/case-studies/newsId/1.aspx (this is the new URLMaster version which works on the "Case Studies page)
http://www.studysouthwest.com/home/newsId/12.aspx (this is the wrong link which is on the home page in the right-hand case studies column. This is the MagicNews module which lists the Case study summaries which should link through to the entire article)

the "newsid" changes depending on which article is being listed on the front page of the site.

Basically the problem is, the front page links to the Case Studies are using the "home" page in the link rather than the "case-studies" page.

Would like to get this resolved soon as it's a live client site. Would it help if i asked the Developer of MagicNews to contact you?

Thanks, Dan.
